Mark Manders

Mark Manders

B. 1968, Volkel, The Netherlands
Lives and works in Ronse, Belgium

Mark Manders translates his thoughts and obsessions into three-dimensional forms including found and handmade objects, using them to construct his own language and map out his identity. Manders materials fool viewers into seeing bronze as clay or wood as paint. With each of his exhibitions, Manders builds on his monumental project Self-Portrait As a Building, ongoing since 1986. His Dutch Pavilion installation Room with Broken Sentence (2013) covered twenty-three years of his artistic activity, combining this early work with new large-scale sculpture.
