Thilo Frank interprets physical phenomena and everyday environments in new contexts, poetically and playfully emphasizing our perceptions of light, space, and motion. His Sharjah installation Infinite Rock (2013) took the shape of an obtrusive black boulder on the outside, but inside the structure people were invited, one at a time, to sit on a swing surrounded by mirrors. Frank’s interior suggested not only infinite play, but also perpetual isolation and self-reflection. Infinite Rock was installed in Bait Al Serkal, former home of the British Commissioner for the Arabian Gulf.
