"For us, the idea of having a work that has contradictions is very important—when, in affirming something, it includes itself and attacks itself. How can you put together all of these things that have nothing to do with each other? You use glue! Glue can be an idea, a word. You can use an ideological glue."
"A quarry’s just a quarry- just a pit. The landscape could be a battlefield from World War I or II. Maybe there are overtones of devastation and catastrophe- things exploding and being broken down. But within that context, the pictures are also about renewal. Something’s been taken away, but the vegetation is growing back, and it’s about life coming back again. I’m interested in landscape and the way history can be suggested through landscape- a history of war, a cultural history, an industrial history- any sort of history."
