"One of my collaborators saw an ancient Chinese painting at a Guggenheim exhibition. It was a painting from the Han Dynasty, a simple brush painting with rivers and mountains and a little hut on the hilltop. I observed that RMB City was in many ways like that particular painting. I wondered why a digital city of today would share traits with the depiction of an ancient Chinese city, the hills, the mists and clouds, the people, the skyline above, and the earth below."
