"I realized in printmaking that if I could just drop this stuff called Spitbite- this acid- onto the plate, that it would eat onto the plate and it would make a spot or a splash. And filling it with black ink retains this spot and also has a kind of three-dimensional quality which doesn’t happen when you use ink on a piece of paper. I was really thrilled."
