"For us, the idea of having a work that has contradictions is very important—when, in affirming something, it includes itself and attacks itself. How can you put together all of these things that have nothing to do with each other? You use glue! Glue can be an idea, a word. You can use an ideological glue."
"I had done enough research about Mies van der Rohe’s Farnsworth House to know a lot of its history- and about his supposed affair with Dr. Farnsworth, his patroness. I didn’t set out to make a film that would deconstruct or investigate these things, but they were all there. For me, on one level, it was about visiting a shrine of modernity- like going to another kind of shrine and having a problem with institutionalized religion, but still gawking at the cathedral above me."
