"We wanted some paintings to be pretty enough that you would want to walk up to them and see the terrible things that have transpired in Guantanamo or Afghanistan. Others we wanted to be black and white so they seem credible- as real as the documents unfortunately are. I’ve focused on documents about the conflict in the Middle East, both the last Gulf War and this one. I’ve only worked with material that’s already been released. I have not made any Freedom of Information Act requests because there’s so much to sift through that’s already out."
