"The picture- the stump- was terrible, and we knew it as we worked at it. And I actually didn’t print it for a while, but I came back to it and did. And then events followed. And a year or two or three, I suppose, after it was taken, I was looking at it and I suddenly sensed there’s a resemblance between that picture and the terrible picture of the person being abused with the wires at Abu Ghraib. It’s not a one-to-one but there is an odd something there that I can’t shake from my mind."
