"For us, the idea of having a work that has contradictions is very important—when, in affirming something, it includes itself and attacks itself. How can you put together all of these things that have nothing to do with each other? You use glue! Glue can be an idea, a word. You can use an ideological glue."
"The balloons look like whales suspended in the air...hovering above you, and the sound is kind of biomorphic like a bleating or whale sound. But it’s all based on a score that I put together using lots of old church hymns and ‘Sailor’s Hornpipe’ and ‘Swan Lake.’ There was an improvisational piece that I invited a guest composer in for. So there was this score...constrained to a scale of just twelve tones."
