"Art making is a form of alchemy, in a way, because you are trying…to make gold from nothing. When it works very well is when you manage to turn the ordinary into the extraordinary."

"I even have an outfit, a Torpedoboy outfit that I wear while I’m painting. In a way, it’s as if when I go into the studio I have to get into character. Torpedoboy’s uniform is pink and yellow, one of the most obnoxious color combinations that I could think of. It’s very loud, and that’s what he’s all about. His ego is his force field. That’s just how he takes on the world."
