New York Close Up: Outdoor Summer Film Fest

Art21, in partnership with The Armory Show, presents an Outdoor Summer Film Fest at Big Screen Plaza in New York City. A full retrospective of New York Close Up films, along with premieres of new films, will screen on a 30 x 16 foot HD-format LED screen, nestled within a 10,000 square foot outdoor venue complete with wood boardwalk, bistro tables, tiki bar, and fish/burger shacks.

The first 100 attendees will receive a special New York Close Up foam “Statue of Liberty” crown!

Art21 Telethon
An 8-Hour Performance & Fundraising Event

Art21 Telethon is an artist-initiated eight-hour performance event and fundraiser, featuring interviews, musical acts, animal talents, comedy, audience participation, and much more. Hosted by artist Ronnie Bass, who developed the event with Art21 featured artist Tommy Hartung and independent curator Miriam Katz, the Art21 Telethon is both a durational performance modeled after marathon television broadcasts, as well as an actual fundraiser where attendees and online viewers can both phone in or contribute online to support Art21.

Featuring performances by Dirty Mirrors (Jennifer Coates, David Humphry, Jon Kessler, John Miller, Aura Rosenberg, Dan Walworth), Adira Amram and The ExperienceMC Squared, Kate Berlant, DAS, Mike Dobbins, Ryan McNamara, Maria Petschnig, and Art21 artist Mariah Robertson; interviews with Art21 featured artists Lucas Blalock, Kalup Linzy, Shana Moulton, and Mika Tajima; featuring artists Debo Eilers and Georgia Sagri; plus special, surprise guests to be announced on the day of the event.

Guests are encouraged to drop by the event at any time during the Telethon; there is a $5 suggested donation at the door. No RSVP necessary, but space is limited.

Proceeds from the event will support the production of Art21′s documentary film series, multimedia and internet-based education resources, film archive, and public programs.

Art21 is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. All donations are tax-deductible and high-level donations will receive Art21-themed gifts and public recognition.

Video Replay presents work by Shana Moulton, LaToya Ruby Frazier, and Tommy Hartung, artists featured in Art21’s new documentary series, New York Close Up. Each artist will screen a film or video work for the audience, directly followed by a replay when the artist takes the mic to provide a voice-over, discussing and annotating the film. The result is an artist-talk-meets-director’s-commentary approach, illuminating the process, source material, and techniques behind making the work of art.
