Kalup Linzy

Kalup Linzy (b. 1977, Clermont, Florida, USA) lives and works in Brooklyn, New York. He earned a BFA and an MFA from the University of South Florida (2000, 2003) and attended the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture (2002). He is a recipient of awards from the Harpo Foundation (2009), Art Matters (2008), Creative Capital (2008), Jerome Foundation (2008), Guggenheim Foundation (2007-08), and the Louis Comfort Tiffany Foundation (2005). He has been an artist-in-residence at The Headlands Center for the Arts (2010), the Time-Based Art Festival at the Portland Institute of Contemporary Art (2009), and the Marie Walsh Sharpe Art Foundation (2005). His work has been included in the exhibitions Melodies, Drama, Limerence, La Conservera, Murcia, Spain (2011); 100 Years of Performance, The Garage Center, Moscow (2010); Off the Wall: Part 1—Thirty Performative Actions, Whitney Museum of American Art, New York (2010); Greater New York, MoMA PS1, Long Island City (2010); Dress Codes: The Third ICP Triennial of Photography and Video, ICP, New York (2009); If it Don’t Fit, The Studio Museum in Harlem, New York (2009); 30 Americans, Rubell Family Collection, Miami (2008); Prospect.1, New Orleans (2008); Television Delivers People, Whitney Museum of American Art, New York (2007); Playback, Musée d’Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris (2007); and Frequency, The Studio Museum in Harlem, New York (2005). He has performed on the ABC television soap opera General Hospital (2010) and at Rob Pruitt’s 2010 Art Awards, New York; Outfest, New York (2009); RedCat, Los Angeles (2009); MoMA (2008); Hammer Museum, Los Angeles (2007); MCA San Diego (2007), and The Kitchen, New York (2007). He is part of the music-based performance art duo Kalup and Franco.
