Applications can only be completed online. In addition to completing the written questions, you can also upload the required video submission as well as additional materials (sample curriculum units and lesson plans, samples of student work, etc.) using our online application.

Please be prepared to complete the online application in one sitting. There is no way to save your work and continue it at a later time. We recommend that applicants download the worksheet containing the full application (available in PDF and Google Docs formats) to prepare responses in advance of the online application process.

Applications for the 2016–2017 academic year must be submitted no later than Sunday, March 20, 2016.

Preferred Mailing Address:

Accepted file types are TXT, RTF, DOC/DOCX, PDF, and ZIP; Max. file size is 5 MB

If selected to participate in ART21 Educators, you will be paired with a mentor who is an alumni of the ART21 Educators Program for the 2016-2017 school year. Your mentor will also attend the Summer Institute, and you will meet with your mentor once a month (both individually and in small focus groups with other mentors/mentees) from September 2016–May 2017.

It is essential that you and your school/district understand that you are applying for a full-year of professional development, not only the Summer Institute. Please discuss your potential participation with your supervisor(s) to assure that they can support your participation throughout the academic year.

This is an important part of the program and you will be sharing video with your ART21 Educator colleagues on a regular basis throughout the year.

Occasionally participants have difficulty with things like school firewalls, Internet connections, access to computers/software, etc. Does your school provide technology support or will you be able to get support elsewhere?

Video Biography

This is an opportunity to go beyond the written application and provide additional information and context for your interest in the program and yourself as a candidate by creating a short (3–5 minute) video. BE CREATIVE! We've seen a lot of animated slide shows with soundtracks, so try new formats. We cannot review videos over 5 minutes.

Consider including your responses to the prompts below, but don’t limit yourself!

  • How does where you live and/or what you teach define or not define you—What is it like to live and teach in your community? Take us there.
  • Tell us about your life outside of school—Who are you as a person, outside of teaching? What are your obsessions, your passions, your concerns, your curiosities?
  • Describe an experience when you were strongly 'moved' by a work of art—perhaps it changed your mind, provoked new thinking, challenged you, or repulsed you.
  • What's unique or special about your classroom, school, or students? Give us a tour, show us the room, give us the inside scoop.
  • Why do you teach? What have been the most significant moments for you? What do you think you have accomplished as a teacher? What challenges have you faced? What more do you aspire to do?

Instructions for Submitting Videos

Please submit your video biography using one of the two following methods:

  • Upload your video to a streaming service such as YouTube or Vimeo. Both YouTube and Vimeo allow you to mark videos as private and/or enable password protection so that they can only be viewed by the intended parties. If you choose this method, please provide access information—including URL and password, if applicable—in the field below.
  • Upload your video to a file transfer service such as Dropbox or WeTransfer. If you choose this method, please provide the file download link in the field below.

You need only use one of these methods to submit your video.
